Abstract

Liquid motorcycle washing waste that is not managed properly is an environmental problem that needs to be addressed so as not to cause environmental pollution. This study aims to determine the ability of the biofilter system to reduce BOD and COD levels in motorcycle washing liquid waste. This type of research is experimental and the research design is Pottest Only Control Group Design. The population of this study was all motorcycle washing liquid waste and the sample was part of the motorcycle washing wastewater taken at a predetermined point of 100 liters.  Data analysis using One Way Anova. The results of statistical tests show that the optimal and effective thickness of gravel media in reducing BOD and COD parameters in motorcycle washing waste is a thickness of 45 cm with the results of BOD 27.09 mg/L and COD 205.22 mg/L with an efficiency value of BOD of 52%, COD of 45%. It can be suggested that the period of biofilm making is longer so that the decrease in BOD and COD levels is more effective and it is necessary to add the thickness of the gravel media so that the BOD and COD parameters can meet the required quality standards.
