Abstract

Dental health disorders negatively impact and affect the quality of life. Psychiatric patients often neglect self-care. The screening results found that of the 31 patients, as many as 30 people (96.7%) had high caries experiences. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between caries experience and the quality of life of patients in the Male and Female Mental Care Room of RSJ Sambang Lihum. This type of study is observational analytic with a cross sectional design. Total sampling amounted to 38 people. Results were analyzed using the Chi Square test. The results of the study were caries experience with high categories as much as 63.2%, medium 21.1% and low 15.8%. The quality of life category is poor at 50%, medium at 34.2% and good at 15.8%. Chi Square test results obtained ρ (0.000) < α (0.05). The conclusion of the study was that most had high caries experiences with a mostly poor quality of life. It is recommended that dental nurses and dental poly perform self-care and routine dental health checks of patients in the mental care rooms of men and women.
